Introduction

Romans 1 – the present wrath of God. God gives people over and judges nations. The unbelievers they know there is a judgement coming. Their conscience convicts them.

Romans 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? [Is] God unjust who inflicts wrath? (I speak as a man.) 6 Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world?

Even if it’s not happening currently there is a promise that God will one day judge. The Day of the Lord. It is unmistakable that there will be a final judgement.

The Last Judgment

1 – The final climatic judgement of God.

A. There is a definite future event. Often called the Day of the Lord. Jude 1:6 the great day of judgement. Mat 11:24, 2 Peter 3:7, Isaiah 13:9, Obadiah 1:15, Acts 2:20, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, 2 Peter 3:10

B. At the end of this Age/World

Matthew 13:30,49

C. At the second coming
Mat 13:39-43, 25:31-32, 34, 41, 46

D – Immediately after the resurrection of the dead
Mat 25:32, 2 Tim 4:1

2 – Jesus Christ is the judge
John 5:22,27; Acts 10:38-42, 17:30-31, 2 Corinthians 5:10,

Romans 2:16
– His own authority
– Qualified as Mediator
– Consolation

Romans 2:16 (NKJV) in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

3 – Judges all men and angels
Psalm 76:9

4 – Based in their works and response to revelation
Rom 2:6, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Mat 25:41-46, Rev 20:11-15, 1 John 3:10, 1 John 5:4, 2 Thessalonians 2:12, Rom 3:19
