Katherine Wetmore – Memorial Service

April 26 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Katherine Wetmore went to be with her Lord and entered her rest on April 10, 2024. She was born on October 18, 1945 in Middlebury, VT, daughter of Burton Sr. and Florence Kimball. She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1963. After meeting him on a blind date, on October 24, 1964, Kathy married the love of her life, Frank Walton Wetmore. They were married for 53 years.

In 1976 Frank and Kathy ferried across Lake Champlain to Ticonderoga, NY; there they purchased a partially burned general store, which they called: Frank and Kathy’s Corner Market. They restored it to become a thriving grocery store, meat market, and popular deli on the way to Ticonderoga’s scenic beach. They ran it together for twenty-two years. Mom did it all. We remember our mother as a diligent, capable, faithful owner and servant; she instilled in us an ethic of hard work.

During Kathy’s time in upstate NY, she sensed a deeper need. While working together with her husband, they began to search Scripture, shared passages, and eventually joined a local Church where they heard the true gospel of Jesus Christ. They learned that Salvation was a gift from God, freely given for undeserving sinners, and that only through faith in Jesus Christ could her sins be forgiven. With her husband, she began to follow Jesus and she found her deepest needs fulfilled.

After many years of seasonally visiting Florida, Frank and Kathy purchased property in Cape Coral, FL and became full time residents. There with her husband, Kathy became a member of Trinity Reformed Church and served in many and various ways. She was an officer’s wife, chaired and served many committees, taught and led Women’s bible studies, helped anyone who asked of her or needed anything, was loving and welcoming to strangers, and always cooked the most wonderful food and deserts at regular Fellowship Luncheons. It was one of her greatest joys, when her son was called to be the Pastor of their church. His fondest memory will be of her sitting in the pews listening faithfully to the Word of God.

Kathy’s greatest joys, loves, and achievements, most certainly were her family. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Christine Fellows and her husband James, Cynthia Trudeau and her husband Warren, and Stephen Wetmore and his wife Wanson. The joy of her life was her nine grandchildren: Elise (Married to Dillon Pettit) & Nathan Fellows; Jessica (married to PJ Kolysko) and Isaac (married to Samantha) Trudeau; David (married to Crystal) Wetmore, Rebekah (Married to Joseph Maniscalco), Jeremiah (married to Abigail), Josiah and Elizabeth Wetmore – and 8 great-grandchildren: Lance Everett Pettit; Juliana Kolysko; Jackson and Lilian Grace Trudeau; Anastasia, Lydia, and baby Maniscalco (due Oct. 30); baby Wetmore (to Crystal and David, due Sept. 4). and baby Noah Wetmore (to Abby and Jeremiah, due June 16). Kathy had nearly finished a special quilt for baby Noah. We found it on her dining table with her spectacles and quilting tools, as she was planning to finish it for Abigail Wetmore’s baby shower (Apr. 13). It is one of the touching memories we will carry with us, that to the very end she was thinking of her family and great-grand baby Noah.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Walton Wetmore, July 16, 2018. She is preceded in death by her siblings: Gladys, Burton Jr, Margaret, and Constance. She is survived by her Brother Wayne Kimball (Married to Janet). She is survived by her Sister-in-law Peggy (Burton Jr.) Kimball, and brother-in-law Larry (Constance) Hamel.

We will miss her brilliant wit, her clever humor, her playful, mischievous smile; we are saddened we will have no more time to hug her, kiss her, or to enjoy long talks with her. We will not soon forget so many expressions of tender love; who will sew up or take in our clothes? Who will alter that dress or quilt a glorious blanket like she? Who will give us answers for every question that comes to our minds, and usually be right? Who will dote over us, lovingly serve us, and make all the filling wonderful meals and delicious desserts we love? We’ll covet her strawberry and lemon meringue pies, her cheesecake, angel food cake, and carrot cake; her cookies, and so many more delights keep coming to our minds with a sigh and grateful smile. When we see a cardinal, we’ll think of her; or when we see a little bell, or hear one chime, wonderful memories of her collections will ring in our ears and bring us back to sweet times. We will be strengthened by her faithfulness and encouraged by her faith. And she’ll always be loved.

The family would like to thank friends and family for their love, support, and prayers. The family celebrates sweet memories of Kathy, her life of faith, and especially Jesus Christ — her great hope, in whose arms she is presently, and will forever be.

A memorial service will take place Friday, April 26th at 10:30 AM with visitation from 10:00-10:30. There will be a reception after the service. This event will be streamed live: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84818149738
