Introduction

They were looking forward to very much something greater to come. A coming savior, kingdom and the Spirit.

4th – looking for restoration of a remnant.

That was part of the future restoration. God promises through the prophets a great restoration. But it’s always a remnant. Remnant means a small number. A few out of the whole were elect. Objects of saving grace. Isaiah 1:9;10:21-22 Israel of the flesh is like all mankind. Sinners in need of a savior. Isa 28:5;37:31;46:3 – Jer 23:3, Micah 5:3

“Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, The remnant will be saved.” Romans‬ ‭9‬:‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

With that remnant there will be a fuller number

5 – The coming in of the gentiles

There were glimpses of the gentiles being brought in. Isa 11:10 – Isa 42:1,6- Jesus – the imputation of Christs righteousness. As a light to the gentiles. The pharisees and sadducees did not want to hear or accept that gentiles will also be saved. Isa 49:6, Romans 11:26 when the Jews and Gentiles come together as one that is “all Israel”
I have other sheep I must bring in.

Jews and Gentiles are going to be saved the same way. By faith alone.

6 – A better homeland and city.

They anticipated this. Is the country of Israel the promised land? No. There is something greater than this. Hebrews 11:8

They were seeking a heavenly kingdom.

Hebrews 11:13-14 (NKJV) 13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced [them] and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.

2 Peter 3 – renews the world. This is what we look forward to and anticipate. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness
