Introduction
Sinful man is foolishly at war with God.
1 – The world’s vane war with God. V1-3
We see the rebellion against God which is human nature. Sinful human nature does not want God to rule over them. V2 against the Lord and against His anointed. To fight against God is to fight against Christ. They rebel, they ignore Gods law, they consider His law as bondage and chains instead of freedom. They think they are doing the will of God by rejecting Christ. All who do not submit to Christ are disobeying God.
Empty worthless vanity. It will get them nowhere is the point. It is madness. The Gospel spreads today, it is unstoppable and it is vanity to oppose.
2 – Heavens response to man. V4 – He who sits in the heavens laughs.
All their raging changes nothing. No matter what we see going on in the world today God is ruling. We should never fear no matter what is going on in the world. God laughs at the absurdity of man opposing Him. God will respond verse 5.
Gods will will be established Verse 6 Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion. It will be for certain. Even here in Psalm it is in past tense.
Romans 1:4-5 (NKJV) 4 [and] declared [to be] the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. 5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name,
3 – The warning if the King Himself V7
“Today I have begotten you”
When we oppose Christ we oppose God. Jesus is the one to whom you must submit.
Everything we have belongs to the Son. He gracefully gives it to us as stewards. Let Christ reign in us. Submit to Jesus as King it will be salvation to us.
V9 – “You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
The reign of Christ will ultimately crush all opposition.
4 – All who kiss the King are blest v12
Believe Him and bow to Him. Stop opposing Him. The picture here is we are prostrating ourselves and kissing His feet. Worship Him with glad genuineness. Bow your heart and your mind. Serve the Lord with fear and joy. We must worship Him in Spirit and truth. Believe and be blest. Embrace by faith. He is the only savior. This Psalm is good news for those who trust in Him.
Psalm 2:1-12 (NKJV) 1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, [saying,] 3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: 6 “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” 7 “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You [are] My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give [You] The nations [for] Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth [for] Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish [in] the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed [are] all those who put their trust in Him.
